St. John the Baptist

In the cathedral there are many paintings of Christians who are presented to us as examples to follow. They are the saints. The most important saint in Turin, the patron saint of the city to which the cathedral is dedicated, is St. John the Baptist.

St. John the Baptist is celebrated each year on June 24th. In order to celebrate him in Turin there are even fireworks! He lived in
the time of Jesus; he was his cousin. The Gospels describe him in a particular way: he dressed with camel skins and ate locusts and wild honey. But surely these are not the reasons why the Church refers to him as an example! He is a saint because for all his life he has prepared the way for Jesus and his teaching. He was an example of humility and courage.
